Music Tutor

Alto Saxophonist, Drummer, Choir Leader

Hailing all the way from Perth, Western Australia, Carys is a passionate musician with a love for performance. Currently studying a Bachelor of Music majoring in Contemporary Performance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), she is working with the University of Hull.

Her musical journey began at eight years old with the Alto Saxophone, followed by Voice and later Bass Guitar. She would later be awarded a scholarship for Saxophone when she began high school and maintained it throughout. She was a part of various jazz, rock and funk-soul ensembles in high school, and later ran her own funk band called ‘The Stevies’. She went on to develop skills in songwriting and arrangement, later winning numerous awards for Original Composition, Contemporary Voice and Solo Classical Performance.

In 2022, Carys was recognised by the Performing Arts Perspectives and SCSA as one of the highest achieving candidates in the state for her ATAR Music Practical Exam for Classical Saxophone, resulting in her being invited to perform solo at Perth Concert Hall.

In 2023, Carys began teaching as the Vocal Director of the Australian Pop Academy, a pop youth choir, working on developing students’ performance and aural skills, teaching the children harmonies.

Carys hopes to inspire other musicians and to help them begin and continue their musical journey at CIME.
